CONMEBOL Qualifiers — Miguel Almirón Leads La Albirroja

Paraguay qualified through the CONMEBOL qualifying campaign, securing their spot in 2026 after narrowly missing out on Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022. Led by Newcastle’s Miguel Almirón and a youthful squad, La Albirroja return to the World Cup for the first time since 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals — their best-ever finish.

GROUP D INFO

About Group D

Paraguay are seeded second in Group D — a tough draw alongside host nation USA, Australia, and Türkiye. Their opener against the USA at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood is the first game of the entire tournament at that iconic venue, played in front of 70,000 home fans. Paraguay’s Matchday 2 against Türkiye at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara and Matchday 3 against Australia at the same venue gives them two consecutive late-night West Coast matches. Paraguay’s last World Cup was South Africa 2010, where they reached the quarter-finals before losing to Spain. Captain Miguel Almirón — one of South America’s most exciting attacking midfielders — will be the key figure as Paraguay look to recapture that 2010 magic and make a deep run in their first World Cup in 16 years.
