2022 World Cup Hosts — Qatar Make Their Second Consecutive Appearance

Qatar hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup but were eliminated in the group stage as the first host nation to exit without a win. Now competing as regular qualifiers in 2026, the Maroons — led by Hassan Al-Haydos — aim to prove they belong at this level and reach the knockout rounds for the first time in their history.

GROUP B INFO

About Group B

Qatar are seeded fourth in Group B — the underdogs of a tough group featuring host nation Canada, European stalwarts Switzerland, and tournament newcomers Bosnia-Herzegovina. Qatar became only the second host nation in World Cup history to be eliminated in the group stage in 2022, winning zero points. Their opener against Switzerland at Levi’s Stadium in Silicon Valley is a tough ask, while facing Canada at BC Place in Vancouver means another hostile crowd. Their best chance of a result may come in the Matchday 3 clash against Bosnia-Herzegovina at Lumen Field in Seattle. Led by veteran captain Hassan Al-Haydos and coached by Marquez Lopez, Qatar will need a significant step up from 2022 to make history and reach the Round of 32 for the first time.
