Barcelona’s biggest wins in El Clásico history have all come by a five-goal margin. The club has achieved that margin seven times in official competitive matches against Real Madrid.

The highest-scoring of those victories was Barcelona’s 7–2 LaLiga win at Les Corts on 24 September 1950. The 6–1 cup victory in 1957 and five 5–0 league wins share the same five-goal margin.

The distinction matters: the 7–2 is Barcelona’s biggest El Clásico win by goals scored, but it is not a larger victory by goal difference than the 5–0 and 6–1 results.

The table ranks official competitive matches by winning margin, with tied results listed chronologically. A 7–2, 6–1 and 5–0 victory each represents a five-goal margin, even though the total number of goals differs.

These are Barcelona’s seven official competitive victories by a five-goal margin against Real Madrid in the records covered here.

LaLiga’s own review of the rivalry’s biggest results lists the 1950 game first among Barcelona’s heaviest wins. It also calls the 1974 result the club’s biggest win at Real Madrid’s stadium.

Competitive and exhibition matches are different records. Barcelona also beat Real Madrid 7-0 on 1 November 1913 and 7-1 on 18 February 1920. Both were exhibition games, and historical databases such as RSSSF list them as friendlies.

This article stays with official matches and with Barcelona. For both clubs side by side, see our guide to the biggest El Clásico wins.

Barcelona 7-2 Real Madrid, 1950

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 7-2 on 24 September 1950 in LaLiga. It was the third matchday of the 1950-51 season. The match was played at Les Corts, Barcelona’s home ground at the time.

Mateo Nicolau and Marcos Aurelio scored twice each, while César Rodríguez, Mariano Gonzalvo III and Estanislao Basora added one goal apiece. Luis Molowny and García scored Real Madrid’s goals.

The goal times in the match record put Barcelona 3-1 ahead at halftime. They were 5-1 up by the 62nd minute.

Seven is the most goals Barcelona has scored in an official Clásico. With Real Madrid’s two, the nine goals also make it one of the highest-scoring El Clásico matches.

The result came a little over a year after Real Madrid had beaten Barcelona 6–1 in September 1949. The two matches illustrate how dramatically the scorelines in this rivalry could swing between seasons. In the 1950–51 league campaign, Barcelona finished fourth and Real Madrid ninth, according to ESPN Deportes.

In margin terms, the 7-2 ties with the 5-0 wins. In goals scored, it stands alone.

Barcelona 6-1 Real Madrid, 1957

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 6-1 on 19 May 1957 in the second leg of a Copa del Generalísimo quarter-final.

The competition was known as the Copa del Generalísimo during the Franco era. It is the predecessor of today’s Copa del Rey, although historical records may use different names when referring to the tournament.

Barcelona played the second leg at Les Corts, its home ground at the time.

Eulogio Martínez scored four, with Laszlo Kubala and Ramon Villaverde adding one each. Real Madrid’s only goal was an own goal credited to Barcelona’s Ferran Olivella.

The 6-1 is the score of one match. The tie itself finished 8-3 to Barcelona on aggregate, after the first leg ended 2-2 in Madrid.

Barcelona went on to win the cup. They beat Real Sociedad in the semifinal and Espanyol 1-0 in the final at Montjuïc on 16 June 1957.

The 6–1 stands out as Barcelona’s biggest cup victory over Real Madrid by winning margin in the records covered here. The result also helped Barcelona progress to the semi-finals, before they went on to win the competition.

Barcelona’s Famous 5-0 Victories

A 5-0 win is a five-goal margin, the same as the 7-2 result. Barcelona has won 5-0 five times against Real Madrid in official competition, and every one came in LaLiga.

Three of them are remembered most: 1974, 1994 and 2010. The two earlier ones, in 1935 and 1945, are covered at the end of this section.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid, 1974

Real Madrid 0-5 Barcelona was played at the Santiago Bernabéu on 17 February 1974, on matchday 22 of the LaLiga season.

Barcelona arrived as clear league leaders and had gone 16 league games without a loss, according to the club’s anniversary feature. Real Madrid were seventh.

Asensi scored just after the half hour. Cruyff doubled the lead before the break, set up by Sotil. Barcelona led 2-0 at halftime.

Asensi added a third early in the second half after a solo run. Juan Carlos scored the fourth. Sotil headed in the fifth from a Cruyff free kick.

The result remains Barcelona’s biggest victory at Real Madrid’s stadium by winning margin. It is also the club’s only five-goal away win against Real Madrid in an official competitive match, making it one of the defining away performances in El Clásico history.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid, 1994

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid was played at Camp Nou on 8 January 1994, on matchday 18 of LaLiga. Johan Cruyff’s team faced a Madrid side coached by Benito Floro.

Romário scored a hat-trick. Ronald Koeman added a direct free kick just after halftime. Iván Iglesias, a substitute, scored late to complete the rout.

Romário’s first goal is the one fans replay. Pep Guardiola played a vertical pass into the area. Romário dragged the ball across his body with a spin, the move Spanish speakers call the “cola de vaca”, and finished past Buyo in the 24th minute.

One memorable moment came from the Barcelona bench. Assistant coach Toni Bruins Slot held up a hand with five fingers spread, one for each goal, as the club recalled in its retrospective.

Real Madrid answered a year later. They beat Barcelona 5-0 at the Bernabéu on 6 January 1995, with Zamorano scoring a hat-trick. The two results are often discussed as a pair.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid, 2010

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid was played at Camp Nou on 29 November 2010, on matchday 13 of LaLiga. It was an early Clásico in José Mourinho’s tenure at Real Madrid, against Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.

Real Madrid arrived unbeaten that season, as the club’s report notes. The result sent Barcelona to the top of the table.

Xavi and Pedro put Barcelona 2-0 up inside 18 minutes. David Villa then scored twice within a few minutes of the restart, each time set up by Lionel Messi. Jeffrén, a substitute, scored the fifth in stoppage time, as the Associated Press reported.

Barcelona lined up in a 4-3-3 with Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta in midfield. Villa played on the left, Pedro on the right and Messi between them.

Barcelona’s performance was about more than the final score. The team controlled possession, moved the ball quickly through midfield and pressed Real Madrid when they lost it.

Those elements helped Barcelona sustain pressure and limit Madrid’s opportunities to build attacks.

Sergio Ramos was sent off in stoppage time following a foul on Lionel Messi, adding a contentious ending to an already heated match.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid, 1935 and 1945

Barcelona’s first 5–0 win in this group came at Les Corts on 21 April 1935. Martin Ventolrà scored four times, while Josep Escolà added the fifth. The victory came less than three months after Real Madrid had beaten Barcelona 8–2.

Barcelona repeated the scoreline at Les Corts on 25 March 1945. César Rodríguez scored twice, with Bravo, Josep Escolà and Mariano Gonzalvo III adding one each. The result helped Barcelona strengthen its position at the top of the league, and the club went on to win the 1944–45 title.

Barcelona’s Biggest LaLiga Wins Against Real Madrid

LaLiga has produced six of Barcelona’s seven five-goal wins. They are the 5-0 wins of 1935, 1945, 1974, 1994 and 2010, plus the 7-2 of 1950.

The 7-2 is the biggest LaLiga win by goals scored. On margin it is level with the five 5-0 results. No Barcelona league win over Real Madrid has gone beyond five goals.

The cup record is simpler. The 6-1 in 1957 is the only five-goal cup win. Barcelona’s other large cup results, such as the 5-1 first-leg win in 1926, are four-goal margins.

These records cover official matches through the most recent Clásico, played on 10 May 2026. The next scheduled LaLiga meeting, on 25 October 2026, is not included. For wins and losses across all competitions, see the Barcelona vs Real Madrid head-to-head record.
