About Group L

England are seeded first in Group L, the 4th-ranked side in the world at the time of the draw. Their opponents are Croatia — the 2018 finalists who famously knocked England out in the semi-finals that same year — Ghana, who England last faced at the 2010 World Cup (a 1–1 draw, England winning on penalties), and Panama, who England demolished 6–1 at the 2018 World Cup. England play their opener and second match entirely in the USA, finishing the group stage at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — the same venue that will host the final on July 19. As Group L winners, England would be in the same pathway as Argentina, with both sides able to meet as early as the quarterfinals.
