GROUP G INFO

About Group G

Iran are one of Asia’s most consistent World Cup qualifiers, making their seventh appearance in the tournament. Drawn into Group G with Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand, all three of their group stage matches will be played in the United States at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood (matches 1 & 2) and Lumen Field in Seattle (match 3). Star striker Mehdi Taremi of Inter Milan leads the attack, supported by Saman Ghoddos and a disciplined defensive unit. Iran’s opener against New Zealand is their most winnable fixture, while clashes against Belgium and Egypt will test their mettle against higher-ranked opposition. Despite off-field geopolitical tensions, FIFA confirmed Iran will play all group games on US soil as originally scheduled. Coach Amir Ghalenoei has shaped a compact, hard-to-beat side that has caused upsets at previous tournaments.
